Children's Connections understands the largest obstacle keeping families from adopting
is the overall cost. We have put together the following ways to help make your adoption dream into a reality. Affordable adoption can be a reality.
Federal Adoption Tax Credit to Make Your Adoption Affordable
As an adoptive parent you are eligible to receive up to a $14,080 (for 2019) tax credit once your adoption is complete. This alone helps make adoption affordable for many. The credit is a dollar for dollar refund of qualified expenses. Qualified expenses include: adoption fees, court costs, attorney fees, traveling expenses (including amounts spent for meals and lodging while away from home), and other expenses directly related to the legal adoption of a child. The Adoption Tax Credit is applicable for both domestic and international adoptions. There are specific ways to apply for the credit, so be sure to read the IRS publication concerning the adoption tax credit. (The tax credit dollar amount is subject to change annually). Click Here
Child Tax Credit to Make Your Adoption Affordable
Child Tax Credits give you an income boost as parents or guardians of dependent children. The child tax credit lets you reduce your federal income tax bill by up to $2,000 for each qualifying child under the age of 17 that you claim as a dependent. The child tax credit is just that – a tax credit. It’s not a deduction. Because it’s a tax credit, it directly reduces the amount you owe the IRS. Click Here
